Under near constant media assault from the radical right and the radical left, it's tempting to believe that those with extreme views constitute a majority in our country and our world. I propose a post dedicated to the middle ground where I believe the true majority lives.
I am a Caucasian heterosexual male of middle age raised in a small town in the Judeo-Christian tradition, state college educated, religiously unaffiliated and politically weary, with still enough idealism to believe that self expression can be meaningful to myself and perhaps to others. I am no more well informed on any of the issues that my comments will touch than the majority of people who might read those comments. Since I spend most of my time working a job, supporting a marriage, and raising a family I have no more time to devote to esoteric study than most people. These constitute my credentials as a citizen of the middle, and the desire to provide observations from the standpoint of the middle majority provides the rationale for this posting. The topics are not preplanned and can be expected to assert themselves without particular agenda, but are expected to touch on the political, spiritual, and social issues where so many radical opinions lie. The posting intervals will most likely be as irregular as the items of interest present themselves.
Is the vanity inherent in posting comments for others to read in any way justifiable? Can a column with the premise of this one be of interest or value? Both negative and positive answers have merit, so we'll see. I give it about a fifty-fifty chance.
